Manchester United are already planning for a midfield overhaul. With Casemiro’s departure confirmed at the end of the season, the Red Devils have identified Atalanta’s Ederson as their top target to replace the veteran Brazilian.
Casemiro, now 34, announced in January that he would leave Manchester United after four seasons at Old Trafford. Under Michael Carrick’s guidance, the holding midfielder has enjoyed a “second wind,” scoring five goals in his last 12 appearances. However, his summer exit is inevitable, forcing United to find a reliable successor.
Ederson has established himself as a key figure for Atalanta this season, featuring in 39 matches and scoring two goals. His combative style, physical strength, and ball-winning ability—qualities reminiscent of Casemiro at his best—make the 26-year-old Brazilian a perfect fit for the intensity Carrick demands for next season. If the deal goes through, United will secure one of the most sought-after midfielders in Italian football, ensuring a smooth transition in the deeper midfield role.
Atalanta have set Ederson’s price at €45 million, though United are confident of closing the deal for a slightly lower fee since the player’s contract runs until 2027. To convince the midfielder, the English club has already offered a net salary of €4.5 million per season (around £75,000 per week). According to journalist Mateo Moretto, this proposal has put United in pole position, ahead of interest from clubs like Atletico Madrid and Arsenal.
“United has overtaken Atletico with their contract offer. They are the club with the most financial room, though there is still no agreement with Atalanta,” Moretto explained on Fabrizio Romano’s channel.
