Shenzhen Peng City, a Chinese Super League (CSL) club, announced on May 12 that it has revoked the captaincy of 37-year-old former Chinese international Jiang Zhipeng due to serious misconduct. The club stated in an official statement that it deeply regrets his behavior and extended its sincerest apologies to Shenzhen fans, while reserving the right to impose further internal disciplinary actions.

The incident occurred after Shenzhen Peng City’s 1-2 home defeat to Shandong Taishan on May 10 in the 11th round of the CSL, marking the team’s only win in seven matches. Video footage captured by fans showed Jiang Zhipeng engaging in a heated verbal exchange with supporters during post-match acknowledgments, pointing and shouting angrily. Head coach Chen Tao quickly intervened to calm the situation.

Following two days of deliberation, the club decided to strip Jiang of his captaincy, citing that his actions “severely damaged the relationship between the team and its fans, and harmed the club’s interests and image.” The club also announced it would invite the involved fans to the training base for constructive dialogue, and immediately launch a disciplinary education program for all first-team players to enhance professionalism, emotional control, and conduct both on and off the pitch.

Jiang Zhipeng, who plays as a full-back, came through the renowned Xu Genbao youth academy. He previously played for Guangzhou R&F, Hebei China Fortune, and Wuhan Three Towns. He joined Shenzhen Peng City as a free agent in January 2025 and has made 10 appearances this season, providing one assist. Notably, in the opening match of the season, Jiang was sent off for a dangerous elbow on Chengdu Rongcheng’s foreign player Velez.
As a former Chinese international, Jiang earned 26 caps and recorded two assists for the national team. The club’s swift action underscores its commitment to maintaining professional standards and fan relations amid a challenging season.
