Bayern Munich has sent several promising young players out on loan this season to gain valuable playing time and accelerate their development, with the hope that they will eventually break into the first team. However, one standout youngster, despite delivering strong statistical performances in the 2025/26 campaign, appears to have no path to a breakthrough at the Allianz Arena.
According to kicker, Danish midfielder Jonathan Asp Jensen has no future at Bayern Munich. Sources close to the German champions and the player’s camp indicate that head coach Vincent Kompany does not plan to include the 20-year-old in the professional squad for the upcoming season. Instead of another loan move, the club is pushing for a permanent transfer this summer, bringing his short Bayern chapter to an end after just one senior appearance. The potential transfer fee was not disclosed.
Asp Jensen joined Bayern from Danish side FC Midtjylland in 2022, with his contract running until 2028. His only Bundesliga appearance came on matchday 33 of the 2023/24 season against VfL Wolfsburg (2-0), when he was substituted on in the final minute. For most of his time, he featured for the reserve team in the Regionalliga Bayern, notching 36 games with seven goals and nine assists. Last summer, the Danish youth international was sent on loan to Grasshoppers Club Zurich.
The move to Switzerland proved fruitful: Asp Jensen became a regular starter, featuring in 36 matches across all competitions and recording eight goals and five assists in the Swiss Super League alone. Despite these impressive numbers, they were not enough to secure a spot in Bayern’s crowded midfield, especially after the departure of Leon Goretzka but with numerous other options available. According to kicker, Bayern may still negotiate a buy-back clause in discussions with interested clubs to retain some future control over the player.
