The Serie A club AS Roma has officially ended its working relationship with Claudio Ranieri, who had been serving as a senior advisor. The decision follows a series of disagreements with current head coach Gian Piero Gasperini, as confirmed by the club.

Claudio Ranieri, a former manager who had been acting as a senior advisor for the Giallorossi, has ended his association with the club after several years across different roles. The separation comes in the wake of multiple clashes with Gasperini.

In an official statement, AS Roma said: “The club announces that its relationship with Claudio Ranieri has ended. We would like to thank Claudio for his significant contributions. He led the team through a very difficult period, and we will always be grateful for his efforts. Looking ahead, our direction is clear. The club is strong, with solid leadership and a well-defined vision. Roma will always come first.”

The tension between Ranieri and Gasperini had intensified in recent weeks, largely due to differences in sporting planning and squad management. Roma reaffirmed its support for Gasperini, stating: “We have full confidence in the path ahead under the technical guidance of Gian Piero Gasperini, with the shared goal of growing, improving, and achieving results worthy of our history.”

Among the key disputes, Ranieri, in his advisory role, had defended the club’s decisions and claimed that Gasperini had approved the transfers. However, the coach denied this and felt “betrayed,” asserting that his requests were not fulfilled. These clashes, combined with public exchanges and disagreements over the team’s management model, gradually weakened their relationship. Eventually, Ranieri was removed from the project on Friday.

Ranieri has previously managed top European clubs including Valencia, Atlético Madrid, Chelsea, Juventus, Inter, and Leicester City—where he famously led the Foxes to the Premier League title in 2016. He now closes his chapter with the Roman club.

Born in Rome and a confessed fan of the club, Ranieri played for Roma as a footballer between 1972 and 1974. He later managed the team in three separate stints: from September 2009 to 2011, returning to finish the 2018/2019 season, and again in 2024 during a delicate period for the ‘Loba’.

Under his guidance, Roma improved their results, posted a strong run in Serie A, and competed for Champions League places. On May 25, 2025, he retired for the second time after finishing the season with the club, before transitioning to a directorial role as a sports advisor to the owners. In June 2025, he turned down an offer to become Italy’s national team coach, choosing to remain in his executive position at Roma.
